George Smith RA
Size without frame: 18x12 in
A genre painter, educated at the Royal Academy Schools. He was also a pupil of Charles West Cope RA who employed Smith in the first place to assist in the painting of murals at the newly completed Palace of Westminster.
His work bears similarity with Thomas Faed in terms of colour and lack of sentimentality, painting realistic rural scenes rather than the romanticised images so popular in the later Victorian period.
