Frances was born in 1983, and raised in Suffolk. After developing an early interest in drawing and painting, she then pursued art and art history at school. At aged 18 she made her way to Florence to pursue a classical training at Charles H Cecil Studios in 2001 for three years, and then taught sporadically at the Charles Cecil studios for a further 7 summers.
Since the completion of her training Frances has been a full time professional portrait and landscape painter and has participated in many exhibitions including Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the BP Portrait Award, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Society of Wildlife Artists, the Society of Women Artists and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters Annual Exhibition, where she has shown since 2005. Winner of the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year for Sky Arts in 2018. Awarded Certificate of Excellence from Portrait Society of America in 2019.
Frances is a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Society of Women Artists.
“The themes of my work largely revolve around what I observe in life and find captivating, ranging from formal portraits to farm life and landscapes of many kinds. The main nugget of interest is often a transcendent moment of atmosphere, whether the light over a field, or the tilt of a head. I think I attempt to pursue what seems to convey most about our environment and human nature in the simple subjects that surround us.”
Frances has also featured in some magazine articles, and on two occasions written an article for The Artist Magazine about her method of Sight-size, and commission painting.
