Born Ayr, painter in watercolour of birds and animals. Studied Glasgow School of Art 1928-1933, winning the Torrance Memorial Award of the GI in 1933. Showed early artistic talent and a passion for animals, especially birds. During WW2 he served in the Lovat Scouts and, following a climbing accident, in the King’s Own African Rifles. Lived latterly at Milliken Park, Renfrewshire. His style was somewhat fanciful, highly coloured, decorative rather than accurate with a strong sense of design reminiscent of oriental art.
Elected RSW 1936, at the time youngest ever. Represented in many public collections.
