Grew up in rural Ayrshire. As a child, Carolyn played with her best friend, the minister’s daughter, in the manse where Robert Burns was tutored. After college, she studied drawing and painting in Italy and later took classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. Taught art in Perthshire for fifteen years. Her technique centres round the use of acrylics with elements of collage to create a variety of different textures as well as colour contrasts. Seasonal changes in the Scottish landscape and weathered buildings that suggest the working relationship of people with the land and sea are her current inspiration. Concentrates on scenes featuring man’s interaction with the landscape, be it fishing, agriculture or gardening. The West Coast of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides hold a potent magic and endless potential.
