Born Edinburgh, painter in oil and watercolour. She was the youngest daughter of Alexander Nasmyth, painting in the style of her father and was arguably the most talented of the sisters - Ann, Barbara, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Jane and Margaret. She exhibited six paintings at the Royal Academy between 1840 and 1862, five of the works being Essex landscapes. She reserved her Scottish landscapes for the Royal Scottish Academy, exhibiting 63 works there. Her portrait, by William Nicholson, is in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
She is represented in the Scottish National Gallery, British Museum, National Trust for Scotland and the University of Dundee Collections.
