Born Glasgow, 26 May; died Peebles. Painter in oil and watercolour, landscapes and coastal scenes. Trained Glasgow. Lived most of his life in Glasgow, spending summers at his studio in Lochwinnoch, Renfrewshire, eventually retiring to Edinburgh. Vice President RGI, regular contributor to the RSW. Closely associated with the world of music. Painted Highland and west coast scenes in a style which was competent, often with subdued muddy colours. After 1918 he executed a number of sketches on Majorca.
Elected RSW 1894. Exhibited at the RSA, RSW, RWS, GI as well as in the English provinces and overseas. Represented in Glasgow AG.
