Born Castle Douglas, died Gifford on 9 November. Painter of landscapes, portraits and figure subjects in oil. Member of the Kircudbright school, In 1880 entered the Royal Institution, Edinburgh as a student, studied thereafter at Antwerp Academy under Verlat, spending three years there in the company of Hornel and Wishart. Hornel encourage him to lighten the tone of his work. A small dapper gentleman, McGeorge fell out with Hornel after abjuring the latter on his excessive drinking. Awarded Keith Prize in 1888. Spent the winters in Edinburgh and the summers painting in Kircudbright, once with a productive summer break in Venice. His favourite subjects were brightly painted, light woodland scenes often with children picnicking or cavorting among flowers.
Elected ARSA in 1898, RSA in 1910. Exhibited RSA (148), GI (56), AAS, L (8) and RHA (3). Represented in the SNPG, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Perth AGs, City of Edinburgh Collection. MacKelvie AG (Auckland, NZ).
