Sherrin was an English painter best known for his depictions of landscapes, maritime scenes, and the countryside of Norfolk and Suffolk. His work is highly detailed, describing objects such as ships and cattle accurately while maintaining a sense of light and atmosphere. Born in 1868 in Brentwood, England, Sherrin first studied painting and drawing with his father, the artist John Sherrin. The younger Sherrin went on to produce a commissioned work for King George V, painting his country estate Sandringham House - a work that still hangs in Buckingham Palace. During the First World War, the artist helped design recruitment posters, and his efforts are now housed in the archives of the Imperial War Museum. Sherrin’s work can be found in British museum collections, including the Bury Art Museum and the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum in Claughton. He died in 1940 in England.
