Born in Australia 14 August. Sister of Agnes Cadell and distant cousin of FCB Cadell. Early in life returned with her father to Edinburgh and as a young girl she and her sister began painting seriously, specialising in animals, especially goats. In the 1920s she began exhibiting in Edinburgh and Perth. Rebuilt Whinmill Brae House on the Water of Leith, designed around a large studio. Painted some portraits although in later years her output was mainly of finer landscapes especially in Kintail. The best works are very bright sunfilled watercolours and continental market places of Paris as well as sensitive if sometimes rather contrived studies of young children. Her still lifes are less effective. Exhibited RSA 1900-1965, one of the few artists whose output increased with age. Exhibited RSA (25), RSW (1), GI (25), L (1) and AAS 1933-1937.
This is a double sided panel, the second scene being a sunny pastoral scene with goats in an orchard.
