Born Bedfordshire. Painter in oil and watercolour and also woodcuts. In addition to teaching and producing prints and woodcuts she also executed book illustrations. Her woodcuts were prepared in an unique manner in which the colour was applied by brush giving each cut individuality. Sometimes plans were laid down in collage, some of which still survive. Studied under Tonks at the Slade, later visiting Paris where she met Sickert. Then went to Canada, returning toBritain in 1911 to join the staff of the ECA where she became friendly with Fergusson and Peploe. Married the etcher Ernest Lumsden in 1914. Sketched extensively during a honeymoon in India and Tibet, 1916. Returned to Edinburgh in 1917. Favourite subjects were children , animals and landscape, all treated with a delicate sensitivity and charm and a vibrant yet qiuet use of colour that deserve greater recognition.
