Born Invergordon, Ross-shire. Painter in oil, watercolour and crayon of portraits, landscapes and figures. Studied at Aberdeen Art School, then proceeded to study at the RSA Schools, completing his studied in Paris. Won silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1900. Visited Paris regularly and sketched in Brittany. In 1904 he travelled to North Africa through Spain, producing paintings reminiscent of Arthur Melville. When he was only 33 he was killed in a railway accident, prematurely ending one of the most meteoric rises in the history of Scottish art.
