Aberdeen painter in oil of landscape, especially the West Highlands and genre. Between 1905 and 1910 he travelled extensively in France, Holland, Belgium, Spain and North Africa, especially Morocco. Noted locally for his treatment of light and shade, frequently demonstrated in his portrayal of trees in a heavily wooded landscape. Trained for a time in Paris. At the time of his death, he was considered a leading figure in the Northern Arts Club and unfortunately his recognition has been limited by his tragically short life.
