Very little is known of the artist Léon Dax who flourished between 1890 and 1900 and whose work is in the Art Nouveau style. It could be that Dax was a pseudonym for another French artist, and it has been suggested that such an artist could be Auguste Brouet, but this is mere conjecture.
Suffice to say that this pair of large watercolours, which are framed in an art nouveau type material over wooden frames, have great quality and reflect very well the Parisian atmosphere of the renowned Moulin Rouge.
