Born March 17. Painter in oil and watercolour of flowers and landscapes. Grand-daughter of Queen Victoria, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught and Strathearn. Married Admiral The Hon Sir Alexander Ramsay 1919 and by royal permission renounced the style and titles of ‘HRH’ and ‘Princess’. Worked for a time in Ceylon and the Bermudas. A skilful painter who worked in a bold style, benefiting from a wide contact with many leading contemporary artists. Present when Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone for the new church at Crathie on Setember 11 1893, a watercolour of which by John Mitchell is illustrated in Under Lochnagar (1894).

Elected NEAC 1931, HRI, RSW 1932, ARWS 1940. Exhibited widely including RA(3), GI(2), RHA (2), RWS(4) and SWA(3) but mainly in the Goupil Gallery, London (113), mostly from her home at Windlesham, Surrey. ‘Tiger Lilies’ is in the Manchester City AG
