Born Blantyre, Lanarkshire 27 March, died 5 July. Painter in oil and watercolour; landscape and still life predominantly. Educated at Blantyre and Hamilton Academy, trained at Glasgow School of Art under Forrester Wilson and Maurice Greiffenhagen 1920-1925. Received the Guthrie Award in 1927 and the GI's Cargill Award in 1972. Taught still life at Glasgow School of Art from 1951-1962. Early in her career was greatly influenced by the French Impressionists, particularly Pissarro, Bonnard and Vuillard.
Best known as a still life painter, her diploma work typifies her individual contribution to this field showing her predilection for rich colour, coruscating light and assured paint texture. Her best work has a parallel in the finest examples of William McTaggart. Her landscapes do not achieve quite the same effect but are nevertheless always interesting compositions in which the configuration is nicely blended with an accentuation of natural colour. Married William Armour.
Elected ARSA 1941, RSW 1956, RSA 1958. Elected Hon Vice President of Paisley Art Institute and in 1983 Hon President of the RGI. Exhibited regularly at the RSA, RA, RSW, SSA and GI. Represented in Aberdeen AG, Glasgow AG, City of Edinburgh collection, Dundee AG, Greenock AG, Paisley AG, Perth AG and Victoria (Australia) AG.
