Born in Southampton, England, George Vaughan Curtis was a marine, figure, mural and allegorical painter. He studied at the Academie Julian, Paris with Legros and Benjamin Constant and Curtis later taught art in Paris. He then emigrated to the United States in 1894. He was a member of the Society of Independent Artists.
