This is a large, heavy, ceramic wash basin sitting on a tight fitting carved wooden stand. The date of manufacture is around 1790, in the Qianlong period, and it is a particularly large piece. The cork stopper fits the aperture situated at the edge of the bowl and the basin has, at some stage, suffered a breakage which is illustrated in one of the photographs. But it has been expertly restored and the basin is completely functional. An unusual item to find in this country and one we think was imported during the last century.
