ART IN HIGHLAND ISOLATION Part VII

Rhod McEwan discusses a painting by the artist John Baptiste de Medina
Rhod McEwan discusses a painting by the artist John Baptiste de Medina (1659-1710), a double portrait of his children painted in c1695. Medina was considered the primary portrait painter in Scotland from 1689-1710 and his finest work has been likened to that of William Hogarth, the ultimate plaudit for a painter of that era. This particular portrait was described by a leading authority as 'outstanding in British art of the time'.
